A stunning couple who didn’t want the photography to take over their day

My life, WHAT A WEDDING! I mean, I feel like I say this a lot … but Alex and Luke’s wedding had me crying, laughing tears, dancing on chairs, singing along (probably too) loudly to Why Why Why Delilah – do you need any more reasons?

Hazel Gap Wedding Venue

I adore Hazel Gap Barn. As the photographer, it serves up the absolute best in aesthetics and photography moments. Add to that though, this couple happen to have impeccable taste, so they took a stunning venue and added in a vintage 80’s Rolls Royce (obsessed), light grey suits, foliage-heavy neutral bouquets, loads of bridesmaids, loads of Groomsmen and THAT dress.

Probably this bride’s best wedding quality though was that, despite her wedding giving serious impact at every turn, as a bride she was actually so laid back and relaxed about it all. This is something I cannot impress on enough for anyone who wants to enjoy their wedding day because honestly, things often go wrong at weddings. You can plan every detail obsessively and you can try and control exactly how the events will pan out, but the fact is, you can’t actually guarantee how it’s all going to go.

Rain happens, plans change, things get forgotten about – but only you can decide whether that’s going to dictate your experience of getting married.

With that in mind, let’s chat more about this wedding and everything in it.

Bridal Prep With a Stunning Wedding Dress

Alex’s dress was a show stopper. We’re talking a blush lace form-fitting dress with a huge luxurious overskirt which gave two looks throughout the day and which had everyone’s jaws dropping. Obviously, Luke also shed a few tears upon his first look as she made her way down the aisle too.

Their priority was to have a gorgeous day, but to make sure everyone had a hilarious time and to not spend too long having their photos taken. This is actually something I hear a lot and is absolutely something I’m happy to work around! I can relate to not wanting to be missing from my own wedding day for two hours because I’m at a photo shoot. Luckily for me, I can work extremely quickly and efficiently because I plan what shots I’m going to take before the session, so I’m well prepared and I’m savvy with the time we have. We still got loads of really varied shots, but we managed to get those shots – including the bridal party moments too – in less than 25 minutes.

Wedding Breakfast and Reception

Then, for the rest of the day, it was entirely candid. Documenting the day as it happened, singing waiters, dancing on tables, shots of jaeger, drunk guests falling into flower beds – all that glorious stuff!

Remember when you get married; your photographer is working for you, so feel free to indicate how long you do or don’t want to spend having those portraits done!
