I say this with love: if you’re planning an epic party, don’t let your photography coverage clock out after the first dance. That’s when the magic really starts. Here’s how to make sure your dance floor gets documented in all its wild, messy, confetti-filled glory — and why your photographer should be right in the middle of it all. Flash on, shoes off, maybe slightly breathless from dancing to “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire.

Choose a Photographer Who Stays Late
You wouldn’t ask your band to pack up after the first chorus of the first dance, would you? No. Same logic applies here. If you want the dance floor to be documented properly — the twirls, the spins, the moment your mum starts a conga line with the groom’s mates — you need a photographer who stays late.
Some packages cut off after speeches or cake-cutting, which is lovely, but also… where is the carnage?!
I offer extra hours (because let’s be real, this is when things get good), and I love when couples say, “We want it all captured — the good, the bad, and the glitter stuck in someone’s eyebrow at midnight.” I will be there, Apple Watch pinging away, clocking 10k steps before the end of the night.
Find a Photographer Who Gets In It — Not Just Near It
It’s easy to hang back with a long lens and technically capture the dance floor… but let’s be honest, the real shots happen in the pit. You want someone who’s in amongst it — ducking under limbs, getting shoulder-to-shoulder with your guests, flash-on-camera and all.
This isn’t the time for subtle. This is the time for ENERGY. For dance battles. For that one mate who suddenly knows the entire Beyoncé choreography. And yes, for your photographer to dance along with you, camera in hand, like she’s been best mates with your bridal party since year 8.

Capture the Unexpected & Encourage the Madness
The best dance floor moments are the ones you never see coming — the flower girl doing the worm, your cousin trying to limbo under a sparkler arch, someone dramatically lip-syncing to a power ballad like they’re on stage at Wembley.
These aren’t staged moments. They’re the real, raw, joyful bits — and they deserve to be photographed just as much as your first look or your vows.
Also, you want a photographer who doesn’t just document the fun but encourages it. I’ve been known to hype up a group chant, start a human tunnel, or suggest a classic “everyone jump at the same time” moment. I even used to lift guests on my shoulders to get the perfect overhead shot — a proud era that sadly ended in a very expensive physiotherapy plan (RIP to my spine, but not my spirit).
Treat the Dance Floor Like the Grand Finale
Because it is. You’ve had the romantic bit, the emotional bit, the group shots, the speeches, the cake… and now it’s time to party like your auntie’s watching (and she is — she’s just three slices of cake deep and requesting Sean Paul).
Adding a couple of extra hours to your package to cover the full dance floor vibes is one of the best investments you’ll make — future-you will thank you when you’re scrolling through that gallery like, “Wait, WHAT was I doing with that inflatable flamingo?!”
Final Thoughts…
The dance floor tells a whole different story — it’s loud, it’s unfiltered, and it’s so uniquely you. So when you’re choosing your wedding photographer, ask them if they stay late, if they dance, if they’ve ever split their trousers mid-macarena (IYKYK), and most importantly, if they’re ready to dive headfirst into your party.
Because the truth is… you can’t fake those moments. But you can photograph them.
And that’s where I come in. Flash ready. Playlist memorised. Shoulders firmly on the ground these days.
