A disco-themed wedding (well, more rave, really…) with an abundance of flowers, sunshine and glorious outdoor moments — despite it being late October…
A few things to note about this bride Katy: she loves colour, she adores music and she’s all about the quirky details. A few things to note about the wedding couple as one unit: they love raving — or, at least they did in their twenties — and still love the music which accompanied those years. Katy’s favourite moments from her wedding day were “…the sun coming out for golden hour after Storm Babet wreaking havoc the week before, the best dancefloor and tunes all night, everywhere I looked I could see someone I loved. Priceless.”

A colourful wedding with lots of dancing
Katy and Jarrod’s wedding went against all the “usual” rules — which of course don’t matter in this day and age of weddings anyway. If anything, those rules are there to be broken. But they had a mainly-outdoor wedding in late October. Katy also used colours for her wedding which are traditionally associated with Summer weddings because, who even cares? And this is probably what helped the sun shine. They also had an incredibly unique take on how they did their desserts —‚ something I’ve never ever seen at another wedding before and which went down so well with the guests.
Being their wedding photographer meant that I had the stunning setting of Scrivelby Walled Gardens to use as a backdrop, tonnes of hilarious and vivacious guests to choose from for brilliant content, plus two DJs who worked in tandem to keep the carnage happening all night. Katy says: “It was very relaxed and loads of fun from start to finish, everyone smiled all day, there was no drama, lovely food and lots and lots of dancing!”
A tipi wedding
Scrivelsby Walled Gardens has the option of indoors and outdoors for weddings, depending on what the weather’s doing. It has a bohemian, festival feel and can be dressed up however you want to, to make it unique to you. This means every wedding I’ve photographed at this venue always feels very different to the last one. Bride Katy says: “I really loved the idea of it being in a tipi as I’d seen a few other tipi venues on social media, a friend’s mum had recently attended a wedding at Scrivs and recommended it and I didn’t even visit in real life, as soon as we saw pictures and videos on line we both loved it so booked a date.”

Three top tips for future brides
Katy gives her essential advice having had the best wedding. She says…
Tip 1: “You can only control what you can control. Don’t worry about the weather. Plan things to please yourself only, you are the vibe… if you’re having the best day ever, so will everyone else!”
Tip 2: “We did NOT spent a lot on favours as I think they are a real waste of money, people got a mini disco ball and a smiley face magnet and I often get sent pics from mates who have used it to stick something on their fridge, a nice reminder of a lovely day!”
Tip 3: “Plan for good food and good music. Other than the dress I feel like people remember these things the most! OH! And decent photography and videography, so pleased we had a video done!”
The bride’s feedback on having me as her wedding photographer
“She was PHENOMENAL, people still comment on how great she was. She fully immerses herself into the day and not in an over the top way but she’s just so personable and experienced that it really just makes everything feel so well controlled because she really knows what she’s doing and it makes you relax so much more!”
